Katin is the Louisiana Creole word for doll. Dolls, Dollies, Doll Babies, Poppets, and “Voodoo Dolls” are all terms for dolls that are used as effigies, or models of a person and are used to magically influence or affect the person who they represent.

They can be used to heal maladies, protect one from evil influences and malicious attacks, influence the thoughts or actions of another, draw in love, money, and success, and even to house a spirit with whom you intend to work with.
